3. You can also spread your LHR over one or two years to better fit your budget.
There are solid reasons for the removal of unwanted body hair such as painful ingrown hairs, hair that grows in unusual patches and unusually excessive hair; all of which can sometimes make us self-conscious. There are two basic principles to keep in mind when considering laser hair removal – do it once and do it right; and do it before your hair turns white. In addition, we can all likely agree that it is rather time consuming, and sometimes painful, removing and grooming body hair daily or weekly.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
How does laser hair removal work?
During laser hair removal, a laser beam passes through the skin to an individual hair follicle. The pigment of the hair absorbs the laser light which causes an intense heat to occur in the follicle. The intense heat of the laser damages the hair follicle, which inhibits future hair growth while keeping the surrounding skin safe from harm. Since this treatment only targets hair in the active phase of growth, multiple treatments will be required depending on your hair removal goals.
Which laser hair removal machine will work best for me?
Laser hair removal, while classified as a cosmetic procedure, can have the potential for skin damage if an inappropriate wavelength is used, the equipment cooling system is subpar or the clinician does not have the experience in treating your particular skin type or hair type. There are many equipment manufacturers that are FDA approved and Health Canada approved but there are only two manufacturers that met our clinic’s criteria of extensive North American based clinical research, substantial business presence in Canada, proven laser hair removal technology with over 10 year of clinical use and at least 95% equipment uptime.
At Essential Life Laser Skin Care Clinic™ we use the Vectus Laser Hair Removal System provided by Cynosure Inc. The Vectus Laser is considered the best laser hair removal equipment in its class known for its safety, high volume laser capabilities and its hair removal effectiveness. Fewer treatments are required when using the Vectus Laser and as such it has one of the lowest overall treatment cost per hour. The Vectus Laser is safe for both face and body hair removal, for lighter and darker skin types and suitable for both women and men too. The Vectus Laser features the integrated Skintel™ Melanin Reader™, the only FDA-cleared melanin reader, helping clinicians to more safely assess the skin type before treatment commences.
Am I a good candidate for this procedure?
The Vectus laser works on all skin types, including very light skin and very dark skin, and most hair colors too. The Vectus Laser works particularly well on dark skin too and works equally well for both women and men. Always request a patch test before commencing your laser hair removal treatment plan and follow the patch test wait times to assess your skin’s reaction to the laser. In general, the darker your skin tone the longer will be your patch test wait time so that the clinician can see and assess your skin’s reaction to the laser. If your skin type is VI, for example, you should plan on a patch test wait time of three days for face hair removal and two days for body hair removal.
Will laser hair removal work for me?
During your consultation, if we conclude that your hair pigment color and skin tone are suitable for laser hair removal and there are no health issues, we will discuss with you what level of treatment results you can reasonably expect. Once the patch test results are available we will review those with you before commencing any treatment plan.
What areas can be treated?
Laser hair removal can remove hair from the face, shoulders, back, chest, abs, arms, hands, fingers, underarms, bikini line, and legs, feet and toes.
Is laser hair removal permanent?
The Vectus laser hair removal technology is FDA cleared and is supported by numerous independent third party clinical studies that clearly demonstrate its efficacy at fully destroying hair follicles in the anagen (growth) phase with no harm to the surrounding skin. Hair follicles fully destroyed will not grow back. If the hair follicle is not fully destroyed, likely due to improper treatment technique or incorrect lasers being used, then there is a possibility that the damaged hair follicle may generate some hair regrowth. Re-treating the damaged follicle at the correct growth phase should prevent any future regrowth.
Is the procedure safe?
The Vectus Laser hair removal system has proven clinical results going back to 1997 with no history of negative long term health effects. However, it is important to ensure that the laser equipment is from a reputable laser manufacturer with experience in the manufacture of such devices and subject to strict regulatory controls and compliance reporting.
Is the procedure painful?
For laser hair removal to be effective, intense laser heat is required to safely and permanently damage the hair follicle to prevent regrowth. Modern lasers with advanced cooling systems provide a close to pain free laser hair removal experience. So beware of claims about 100% pain free laser hair removal as you might not get the hair removal results you expect. However, most people feel only a slight, momentary sting or pinch at the treatment site during the procedure. Topical anesthetics are available, but most patients do not require them and find the mild discomfort quite tolerable.
Why are multiple treatments required?
Every hair follicle goes through three different stages during its lifecycle. As hair is most effectively treated during the anagen stage several treatments are required to completely destroy each follicle. The laser hair removal treatment interval for face is every 4 weeks; underarms, arms, hands and bikini area every 4 to 6 weeks; and all other areas every 8 to 10 weeks. It is important to maintain your treatment interval to ensure your treatments are occurring during the anagen (growth) stage or your results will not be as successful. Six treatments per body area are recommended for best results and three treatments if you are looking for partial hair reduction.
How quickly will I recover?
There is no treatment downtime and you can resume regular daily activities immediately following treatment.
Are there any side effects?
A mild sunburn-like effect is expected and is quite normal. This usually lasts 2-24 hours but can persist up to 72 hours. Mild swelling and redness may accompany this, and usually resolves in 2-3 days. Full post treatment care instructions will be provided by our clinic.
How much does it cost?
The Vectus Laser is a high volume laser and will complete your treatments safely, faster and with fewer treatments required. Overall, it’s the best value when you consider the time to treat is lower compared to other laser machines. Our prices are very competitive for comparable types of laser technology. Our goal is to ensure you get the best possible treatment care and results during your laser procedures and we will work with you to make your treatment cost as affordable for you as we can.
