Wrinkles and Fine Lines Treatment

Wrinkles and fine lines are inevitable with aging skin but they can be delayed with the use of lasers and microneedling for skin smoothing and a good home care program focussed on collagen therapy. Botox and fillers should be complementary to these; not your first line of action.

While part of the aging process, wrinkles can also result from your choice of sleeping positions, weight loss, exaggerated facial expressions, sun exposure, smoking, poor hydration and a variety of other factors. Collagen and elastin work together to create skin strength, firmness, and shape. Over time, aging can deplete the skin of collagen and elastin giving rise to folds, ridges and creases in the skin.

For some people wrinkles and fine lines could be described as enhancing their personality. However, many people find that early onset of wrinkles and fine lines, especially around their eyes, give them a tired, weary look and make them look and feel less youthful. For many people, skin folds around the area of the mouth and jaw can make them look stern or angry thus altering the perception of their personality.

Today, while there are a number of options available that can significantly reduce wrinkles, skin folds and fine lines, it is important that you find treatments and procedures that are suitable for your skin type and needs. At our clinic we classify age-related wrinkles and fine lines into three categories to ensure the appropriate treatment protocol is recommended. The categories we use are: early onset fine lines in younger skin, mature skin aging showing fine lines and wrinkles, and mature/hormonal aging of skin showing deeper wrinkles and sagging/loose skin. The treatment needs of each of these skin aging categories differ, both for laser treatments and for products usage.

Non-surgical procedures and treatments such as fractional laser and radio frequency energy are great options for alleviating wrinkles and fine lines. For Marionette Lines (deep wrinkles that extend from the mouth to the jaw) and Nasolabial Folds (deep lines from the outer edges of the nose to the edges of the mouth) dermal fillers are good choices. These treatments need to be complemented with a good home care regimen for results to be sustained. SkinCeuticals Eye Balm rehabilitates mature, aging skin around the delicate eye area and SkinCeuticals Face Cream are specifically formulated to combat collagen breakdown.
